My experience with RKB Stairs and Railings was seamless from start to finish. Mike came out to look at my stairs and explained things that might need to be done. He was quick but thorough in his visit. For the installation, Rick was on time with arriving at the time he gave me. He was super kind and went above and beyond what I expected. My previous stairs were clearly not done by someone with experience, and Rick had to make adjustments on the fly to ensure everything was installed well. I’m rarely 100% pleased, and Rick absolutely met my expectations and more! Highly recommend!

My wife and I recently moved into a new home and one of our concerns with the stairs and railings was that it felt unstable. The previous stairs was covered in carpet. Once we removed the carpet, the stairs were in fairly poor condition. In addition, it would have been very expensive to sand the paint off the existing railings and posts. Therefore, we decided to spend more to get a new modern look. We struggled to find a vendor who was able to replace just the stairs and railings without a full replacement of the staircase. We were happy to find RKB who specialized upgrading stairs and railings. (Rick is the owner). We were able to take get on the schedule within 3-4 weeks.Project: Replace stairs and railingsRemove and dispose of existing stairs and railingsReplace posts from round posts to square posts (square is more sturdy)Replace wooden spindle with metal spindles (metal spindles are similar in pricing to wooden)Replace 6010 railing with new flat railsReplace cove molding under treadsReplace nosing piecesReplace first step treadTime:The entire removal and installation of the posts, nosing, cove molding took one working day. Rick came back after sanding was complete to install the spindles which took around 4 hours.Process:Prior to the installation, we had to decide on type of spindles and railing type (curved or flat rail). Once decided, Rick was able to provide a competitive quote. The rest of measurements were completely taken care of by Rick.Day of – Rick set up shop in our garage. (Be warned that there will be a significant amount of sawdust created from cutting of the posts and railing). The materials for the post and rails were brought and assembled on site. He began with removing the existing spindles and posts. Then the nosing was replaced and holes for the spindles we’re drilled on site. Then he installed the new square posts followed by installation of the railings and connecting to the posts. He improved the stability of the posts compared to the previous stairs. Please not that if there isn’t a stud to connect your railing, they will cut open the drywall to add a wood backing to connect the railing to. We had to repair the drywall the holes ourselves. Finally the first stair treads were replaced and the cove molding was added. They came back a different day to install the metal spindles which are cut to size on site and glued into the holes.Professionalism:Rick exhibited professionalism from the beginning to end of the project. He addressed each one of our concerns throughout the project. The quote and payment process was fully transparent. He also ensured that we were happy with the end result.Summary:I’d highly recommend choosing RKB to replace your stairs and railings. On a personal note, we were very happy with the square posts, flat rail, and metal spindles combination that created a modern look. The pricing was fair and the end result was high quality. The stairs feels very sturdy compared to before. Please check out the photos for before and after shots ! Thestain was done separately.
